A backup agent is installed on each server to start the backup process. Once installed, you must set the encryption key password to protect the data you wish to backup. The data to backup is then selected via a secure web interface.
The backup agent compresses and encrypts data using 256-bit AES encryption and uploads it to a UK-based data centre. Data from this centre is then mirrored to a separate data centre in the EU. Only the encryption key password that you control can unlock the data.
LiveVault performs a full initial backup of your server. From then on, data is backed up every 15-minutes, at the byte level, as it is created or changed.
When you need to recover data, files can be restored to either the original server or any server you choose via:
- A secure internet connection
- Over LAN (by the optional TurboRestoreTM Appliance) or;
- On a NAS device
Data backed up with LiveVault is securely protected by features including 24x7 monitoring, automatic alerts and reports.
